Basic info

In IGCSE Biology (0970), students study the structure and function of living organisms, learning how systems in plants, animals, and humans work and interact. The subject covers about 21 chapters, including cells, genetics, ecology, human biology, and biotechnology, giving a full picture of how life operates.

Assessment is through three main exams:

  • Paper 2 (Multiple Choice, Extended): 40 questions, 45 minutes, worth 30%.
  • Paper 4 (Theory, Extended): structured and short-answer questions, 80 marks, 1 hour 15 minutes, worth 50%.
  • Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical): written practical-based questions, 40 marks, 1 hour, worth 20%.

To achieve the top grade (Grade 9 / A*), students usually need around 75–80% or higher overall, though exact grade boundaries change depending on the exam session.

Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Amr Ragaei, your Biology instructor for IGCSE 0970. In this course, you’ll focus especially on Paper 2 (Multiple Choice, Extended), Paper 4 (Theory, Extended), and Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical). Paper 2 has 40 questions, lasts 45 minutes, and counts for 30% of your final mark. Paper 4 is the main theory exam, 80 marks, 1 hour 15 minutes, and is 50%. Paper 6 lets you show your practical understanding in written form, worth 40 marks, and makes up 20%.

We cover all the Extended content (Core + Supplement), so you’ll be prepared for questions that test not just facts but analysis, problem-solving, and lab-skills theory. To reach a top grade (Grade 9 or A*), you’ll need to aim high — scores are often above 150-160 out of 200 points in recent sessions, depending on difficulty. But more than just grades, I want you to understand deeply, feel confident in experiments (even if in Paper 6 it’s written), and develop the scientific thinking that stays with you long after the exam.
