Basic info

In Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry (4CH1), students explore the composition, structure, and behavior of matter, learning how substances interact, combine, and change. The subject develops understanding of key principles such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, energetics, kinetics, organic chemistry, and industrial processes, giving students a strong foundation for further scientific study.

The syllabus is divided into about 11 main topics, including states of matter, elements and compounds, chemical changes, electrolysis, rates of reaction, acids and bases, metals, organic chemistry, and the environment.

Assessment is through two main exams:

  • Paper 1 (Chemistry Paper 1): covers core and extended content, 2 hours, worth 61% of the total qualification.
  • Paper 2 (Chemistry Paper 2): assesses experimental and investigative skills, 1 hour 15 minutes, worth 39% of the total qualification.

There is no coursework component — practical skills are assessed through written questions on experiments and data analysis.

To achieve the top grade (Grade 9 / A*), students typically need an overall score of around 75–80% or higher, though grade boundaries may vary depending on the exam session.

Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Kareem Leithy, and I’ll be guiding you through your Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry (4CH1) course. ⚗️

Chemistry isn’t just about memorizing equations — it’s about understanding how and why things happen at the molecular level. In this course, we’ll uncover the logic behind every reaction, explore how matter behaves, and connect what you learn to real-life examples you can actually see and relate to.

My lessons are built around simplicity and focus. I break every topic down step by step, making even the hardest ideas feel clear and approachable. You’ll get plenty of guided practice, past-paper solving, and smart exam techniques to help you think like a chemist, not just study like one.

Over the past few years, I’ve worked with dozens of students who all started with different levels of confidence — and by the end, they discovered that Chemistry can actually make sense (and even be fun 🔬). With the right mindset and consistent effort, you’ll be surprised how much you can achieve.

So, if you’re ready to truly understand Chemistry and build the skills to ace your exams, let’s get started — one concept at a time. 🌟
